HMS Erebus
HMS Erebus was a British Royal Navy ship launched in 1826, known for its role in polar exploration. It was part of Sir John Franklin's ill-fated 1845 expedition to find a Northwest Passage through the Arctic. The Erebus and its companion ship, HMS Terror, became trapped in ice, leading to the crew's eventual abandonment and loss. The wreck of Erebus was discovered in 2014 near King William Island in Canada, providing valuable insights into Arctic exploration and 19th-century naval history. The ship’s legacy highlights the challenges and risks faced during early voyages into uncharted polar regions.
