HMS Britannia
HMS Britannia was a Royal Navy ship launched in 1860, notable for being a flagship and serving as a training vessel. It was a wooden steamship, reflecting the transition from sail to steam power in naval warfare. Perhaps most famously, it was the training ship for many future naval leaders, including Prince Charles. HMS Britannia played a key role in the naval history of the United Kingdom before being decommissioned in 1997. Today, the name is associated with the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, which continues to train officers for the Royal Navy.
