Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) is a type of high dynamic range (HDR) technology used in modern televisions and broadcasting. It enhances picture quality by expanding the range of brightness and colors, making images more lifelike. Unlike other HDR formats, HLG doesn't require metadata to be sent with the video, simplifying broadcasting. It combines traditional gamma curves with a logarithmic function, allowing TVs to display bright and dark areas more accurately. This makes HLG especially suitable for live TV broadcasts, as it provides richer detail and a more immersive viewing experience without complicating transmission.
