HLA-B27 antigen
HLA-B27 is a specific protein found on the surface of certain immune system cells, part of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system that helps the body recognize its own tissues. It plays a role in immune response and is inherited genetically. Having HLA-B27 is associated with a higher risk of developing certain autoimmune or inflammatory conditions, such as ankylosing spondylitis and other related diseases. However, not everyone with HLA-B27 will develop these conditions, and many people without it can still be affected. It is one of many factors that influence immune system behavior.
