HITS Algorithm

The HITS (Hyperlink-Induced Topic Search) algorithm evaluates web pages based on their links. It assigns two scores: authority and hub. Authorities are pages with valuable, original content on a topic—think of them as expert sources. Hubs are pages that link to many authorities, acting like directories or resource lists. The algorithm iteratively updates these scores: good hubs point to good authorities, and good authorities are linked by good hubs. Over time, it identifies the most authoritative pages and the best hubs, helping to improve search results by highlighting reputable sources and comprehensive resource pages.
