Historical guilds
Historical guilds were organized associations of artisans and merchants in medieval and early modern Europe. They regulated trades by setting standards for quality, training apprentices, and controlling markets and prices. Guild members often adhered to strict rules to maintain the reputation of their craft and protect their economic interests. They also provided mutual support, such as assistance in illness or death. These guilds played a key role in the economic and social structure of their communities, helping to ensure skilled craftsmanship, stability, and continuity within trades before the rise of modern capitalism and industrialization.
