Histopathology of lung tissue
Histopathology of lung tissue involves examining slides of lung biopsies under a microscope to identify structural changes or abnormalities. Healthy lung tissue appears with delicate air sacs (alveoli) where gas exchange occurs, supported by fine connective tissues and blood vessels. In disease states, patterns such as inflammation, fibrosis (scarring), or presence of abnormal cells can be observed. For example, pneumonia shows inflammation and fluid in the alveoli, while lung fibrosis shows thickened, stiff tissue. These microscopic findings help diagnose conditions like infections, cancers, or interstitial lung diseases by revealing cellular and tissue-level alterations.
