Histone

Histones are specialized proteins found in the nucleus of cells that help organize and package DNA. Think of DNA as a long thread; histones act like spool-like structures around which this thread winds, forming a compact, manageable structure called chromatin. This organization allows cells to efficiently store, access, and regulate genetic information. Histones also play a role in controlling gene activity; chemical changes to histones can turn genes on or off. Overall, histones are essential for maintaining the structure and function of chromosomes within the cell nucleus.
