Hippodrome of Constantinople

The Hippodrome of Constantinople was a massive ancient sports arena in the heart of Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul), primarily used for chariot racing and public entertainment during the Byzantine Empire. It could hold around 100,000 spectators and featured long racing tracks, statues, and colorful events that drew large crowds. The hippodrome was also a social and political hub, where emperors and officials interacted with citizens. Over time, much of it was dismantled or repurposed, but its remains offer insight into Byzantine culture and urban life from the 5th to the 15th centuries.
