Hip Hop History
Hip hop history began in the 1970s in New York City, emerging as a cultural movement among Black and Latino communities. It combines four main elements: rapping (MCing), DJing, graffiti art, and breakdancing. Originally a form of self-expression and social commentary, hip hop grew from block parties to a global phenomenon shaping music, fashion, and culture. Artists like DJ Kool Herc, Tupac, and Missy Elliott helped expand its influence. Today, hip hop remains a powerful voice for social issues, innovation, and community identity worldwide.
