Hijri Calendar
The Hijri calendar, also known as the Islamic or lunar calendar, is a system based on the moon’s phases. Each month begins with the sighting of the new moon, making months either 29 or 30 days long. It consists of 12 months totaling approximately 354 or 355 days, about 10-11 days shorter than the Gregorian solar year. This calendar is primarily used to determine Islamic religious events and holidays. Unlike the Gregorian calendar, which aligns with the seasons, the Hijri calendar shifts each year relative to the solar year, causing Islamic dates to cycle through different seasons over time.
