high-risk HPV

High-risk HPV (human papillomavirus) refers to types of a common virus that can infect the skin and mucous membranes, especially the genital area. While most HPV infections clear on their own, high-risk strains have the potential to cause changes in cells that may develop into cancers, most notably cervical cancer, as well as cancers of the anus, penis, throat, and other areas. These infections often show no symptoms, making regular screenings and vaccinations important preventive measures. Detection and management can significantly reduce the risk of cancer development associated with these high-risk HPV types.
