High Plains

The High Plains are a broad, flat region of mostly grassland and prairie stretching across parts of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Texas. This area is characterized by its elevation, generally between 3,000 and 5,000 feet above sea level, and is known for its extensive agriculture, especially grain and cattle ranching. The High Plains have a semi-arid climate with relatively low rainfall, making irrigation important for farming. The region's open landscape influences weather patterns and supports diverse ecosystems, while also playing a significant role in the United States' agricultural economy.
