High-Performance Linpack (HPL)
High-Performance Linpack (HPL) is a benchmark used to measure a supercomputer's raw computational power by solving a complex system of linear equations. It assesses how quickly and efficiently a machine can perform large-scale mathematical calculations, primarily focused on floating-point operations. The results, often expressed in petaflops (quadrillions of calculations per second), help compare supercomputers' performance. HPL is the standard test for the top-ranked supercomputing list, the TOP500, providing a benchmark for their ability to handle demanding scientific and engineering problems.
