High energy X-ray absorption occurs when very energetic X-ray photons pass through a material and are absorbed by the atoms within it. This process depends on the material’s composition and density, as well as the energy of the X-rays. When these high-energy X-rays interact with atoms, they can eject inner-shell electrons, leading to absorption peaks known as absorption edges. This phenomenon helps scientists analyze the material’s elemental makeup and structure.
