High Earth Orbit (HEO)

High Earth Orbit (HEO) is an orbit where a satellite is positioned much farther from Earth than low or medium orbits, often thousands of kilometers above the surface. These orbits are used for communication, weather monitoring, and scientific observation, providing extended coverage over large areas and allowing satellites to stay in view of specific regions for longer periods. Because HEOs move more slowly relative to Earth’s surface, satellites in these orbits can sustain continuous contact with ground stations over time. HEOs are valuable when persistent coverage of high-latitude regions or specific locations is needed.
