High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL)

High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) is often called "good" cholesterol because it helps remove excess cholesterol from your blood and artery walls, transporting it back to the liver for disposal or recycling. This process can reduce the risk of plaque buildup in arteries, lowering the chance of heart disease and stroke. Having higher levels of HDL is generally associated with better cardiovascular health. Unlike other types of cholesterol, HDL plays a protective role by maintaining healthy blood vessels and supporting overall heart function. Regular exercise, healthy eating, and avoiding smoking can help increase HDL levels.
