High-context Culture
A high-context culture is one where communication relies heavily on implicit messages, non-verbal cues, and shared understanding rather than explicit words. In such cultures, relationships, history, and social harmony play a vital role in interactions. People often read between the lines, and much is understood through context, tone, and body language. Examples include Japan, China, and Arab countries. This contrasts with low-context cultures, where communication is more direct, explicit, and written, emphasizing clear, detailed information. High-context societies prioritize group harmony and mutual understanding, often expecting members to be aware of unspoken rules.
