Heterotrophic bacteria

Heterotrophic bacteria are microorganisms that obtain their energy and nutrients by consuming organic substances, such as dead plants, animals, or waste products. Unlike plants that make their own food through photosynthesis, heterotrophs rely on external sources for nourishment. These bacteria play a vital role in ecosystems by breaking down organic matter, recycling nutrients, and supporting soil and water health. They are found almost everywhere, including soil, water, and inside the bodies of animals and humans, where they can be beneficial or sometimes cause infections.
