HESS (High Energy Stereoscopic System)

HESS (High Energy Stereoscopic System) is a scientific tool used to observe the universe’s most energetic phenomena, such as black holes and supernovae. It consists of multiple large telescopes located in Namibia that work together to detect very high-energy gamma rays—particles emitted by extreme cosmic events. By capturing and analyzing these gamma rays from multiple angles, HESS creates detailed 3D images of these energetic processes, helping scientists understand their origins and physics. Essentially, HESS acts like a specialized eye, allowing astronomers to study the high-energy universe in unprecedented detail.
