Hershey-Chase Experiment
The Hershey-Chase experiment demonstrated that genetic information is stored in DNA, not protein. They used viruses that infect bacteria, labeling protein parts with sulfur and DNA with phosphorus. When they mixed the viruses with bacteria and then checked which parts entered the bacteria, only the phosphorus (DNA) label was found inside. This proved that DNA carries genetic material, confirming its role in heredity. The experiment was crucial in establishing DNA as the molecule responsible for inheritance.
