Herpesviridae
Herpesviridae is a large family of viruses that can infect humans and animals. They are known for causing persistent infections, meaning once you're infected, the virus stays in your body for life. Common types include herpes simplex virus (causing cold sores and genital herpes), varicella-zoster virus (causing chickenpox and shingles), and Epstein-Barr virus (linked to mononucleosis). These viruses can remain inactive after initial infection and may reactivate later, especially during stress or immune system weakening. Herpesviruses spread mainly through close contact, such as kissing, sexual activity, or contact with infected skin or bodily fluids.
