hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer
Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), also called Lynch syndrome, is a genetic condition that increases the risk of developing colorectal cancer and other cancers, often at a younger age. It is caused by inherited mutations in specific genes responsible for fixing DNA errors. Because of these mutations, abnormal cells can grow more easily, leading to cancer. Unlike other types of colorectal cancer, HNPCC doesn’t usually involve many polyps (small growths). Family history often plays a key role, and early screening is crucial for detection and prevention.
