Henry Shaw was an American botanist and philanthropist best known for founding the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, Missouri. Inspired by his love of plants and gardens, he established the institution in 1859 to promote plant research, conservation, and education. Shaw dedicated much of his life to creating a beautiful and educational space where the public could experience diverse plant collections. His efforts significantly contributed to botanical sciences and public environmental awareness. Today, the Missouri Botanical Garden stands as one of the oldest and most respected botanical institutions in the United States.
