Hematopoietic stem cell

A hematopoietic stem cell is a special type of stem cell found in bone marrow that can develop into all types of blood cells, including red blood cells, which carry oxygen; white blood cells, which fight infections; and platelets, which help blood clot. These stem cells are essential for producing and replenishing blood throughout your life. They are unique because they have the ability to both self-renew (make more of themselves) and differentiate (transform into specific blood cell types).
