Helen Frankenthaler
Helen Frankenthaler was an influential American painter known for her innovative contributions to Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting. Born in 1928, she developed a unique technique called "soak-stain," where she diluted oil paints and poured them onto unprimed canvas, allowing colors to blend and create luminous effects. Her work emphasized spontaneity and emotional expression, often featuring large, sweeping forms and vibrant colors. Frankenthaler’s pioneering approach paved the way for future artists and redefined the possibilities of painting, making her a key figure in 20th-century art. She continued to create and inspire until her passing in 2011.
