HEFCE
HEFCE, the Higher Education Funding Council for England, was a government agency responsible for distributing funds to universities and colleges in England, ensuring quality and promoting academic excellence. It managed public funding to support teaching, research, and related activities, helping institutions deliver high-standard higher education. HEFCE also monitored university performance and maintained quality standards, working to ensure students received value and that institutions met academic and operational benchmarks. Established to support the growth and improvement of higher education, HEFCE operated until 2018, when its responsibilities were transferred to other organizations like UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
