Hedy Lamarr
Hedy Lamarr was an accomplished actress in the 1930s and 40s, but she was also a brilliant inventor. Along with composer George Antheil, she developed a frequency-hopping communication system intended to prevent enemy interception during World War II. This innovative technology, which involved rapidly switching broadcast frequencies, laid the groundwork for modern wireless communication, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Despite her significant contributions to engineering, Lamarr’s achievements in this field were often overshadowed by her Hollywood career, but today she is recognized as a pioneer in technology.
