Heber Curtis
Heber Curtis was an American astronomer known for his work in understanding the universe's structure. In the 1920s, he studied spiral nebulae (now called galaxies) and debated whether these were nearby objects within our galaxy or distant, separate galaxies. His research contributed to the acceptance of the idea that the universe contains many galaxies outside of our own. Curtis also played a key role in the famous 1920 "Great Debate" with astronomer Hubble, helping to shape our modern understanding of the universe’s vastness.
