HeartMate (ventricular assist device)
The HeartMate is a type of ventricular assist device (VAD) that helps a failing heart pump blood more effectively. It is a mechanical pump implanted inside the chest, connected to the heart and the aorta, to support or replace the heart's pumping action. This device is often used as a bridge to transplant or as a long-term solution for patients with severe heart failure. It improves blood flow, reduces symptoms, and enhances quality of life for those whose natural heart cannot sufficiently circulate blood on its own.
