HeartMate device
The HeartMate device is a type of ventricular assist device (VAD) used to support the heart’s function. It is a mechanical pump that helps the heart circulate blood more effectively, typically used for patients with severe heart failure. The device is implanted inside the body, usually attached to the heart and connected to an external power source via a thin cable. By taking over some or all of the heart’s pumping workload, the HeartMate can improve symptoms, increase activity levels, and serve as a bridge to heart transplantation or as a long-term solution when transplant isn’t an option.
