Hearth
A hearth is the area in front of a fireplace, originally the floor of a fireplace’s open fire chamber, often made of brick, stone, or concrete. Today, it also refers to the entire fireplace structure itself. The hearth serves as a safe, heat-resistant surface that protects the surrounding walls and floor from sparks, embers, and heat. It creates a defined space for the fire, enhancing safety and aesthetics. Hearths can be both functional—keeping the fire contained—and decorative, adding charm and warmth to a room’s ambiance.
