Heart (muscle)
The heart muscle, called cardiac muscle, is a specialized tissue responsible for pumping blood throughout the body. It is composed of strong, striated fibers that contract rhythmically and involuntarily, fueled continuously to maintain circulation. These muscle cells are interconnected, allowing synchronized contractions that generate a consistent heartbeat. The heart's muscular walls are thickest in areas requiring more force, like the left ventricle, which pumps oxygen-rich blood to the entire body. Its unique properties enable it to work tirelessly, providing vital oxygen and nutrients to tissues and removing waste products, thereby sustaining overall health and function.
