Heart conditions (Mitral Valve Disease)

Mitral Valve Disease affects the heart’s mitral valve, which controls blood flow between the left atrium and left ventricle. When healthy, it opens to let blood in and closes properly to prevent backflow. In mitral valve disease, the valve may become narrowed (stenosis) or leaky (regurgitation). This can cause symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, or irregular heartbeat, and over time, it may strain the heart, leading to heart failure. Diagnosis often involves echocardiograms, and treatment can include medications or surgery to repair or replace the valve, helping restore normal blood flow and heart function.
