Headjoint

A headjoint is a crucial part of a flute, located at the top of the instrument. It's a tube through which the player blows air to produce sound. The headjoint determines the pitch, tone quality, and responsiveness of the flute. By adjusting the embouchure (mouth position) and how the player blows air into the headjoint, different notes and sound qualities can be achieved. It often includes features like the lip plate and the opening called the embouchure hole, which are key to producing a clear, controlled tone. Essentially, the headjoint is the primary tool that shapes the flute's sound.
