HDAC6 (histone deacetylase 6)

HDAC6, or histone deacetylase 6, is an enzyme that plays a key role in regulating how proteins in our cells function. Unlike other enzymes that primarily modify DNA packaging, HDAC6 mainly acts on specific proteins outside the nucleus, particularly those involved in transporting materials within cells and managing cellular waste. By removing acetyl groups from these proteins, HDAC6 influences cell movement, immune responses, and how cells respond to stress. Its activity is important for normal cell health, but when dysregulated, HDAC6 is also associated with diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and inflammation.
