Hazard theory
Hazard theory suggests that accidents or injuries occur when a specific hazard, such as a dangerous condition or object, interacts with human activity in a way that causes harm. It emphasizes that risks are linked to particular hazards present in the environment, and understanding these hazards helps in preventing accidents. For example, a wet floor (hazard) combined with a person walking nearby can lead to a slip and fall. By identifying and controlling hazards, safety can be improved, reducing the likelihood of accidents in workplaces or public spaces.
