Haugeanism
Haugeanism was a Christian movement in Norway during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, inspired by lay preacher Hans Nielsen Hauge. It emphasized personal faith, individual Bible study, and a direct relationship with God, often outside formal church structures. The movement encouraged economic self-reliance, social responsibility, and moral integrity among common people. Haugeanism challenged traditional clergy authority by empowering laypeople to interpret Scripture and live devoutly. Its influence fostered religious revival, cultural growth, and national identity in Norway, making faith accessible and relevant to everyday life.
