Harvesting Honey
Harvesting honey involves carefully removing frames of honeycomb from beehives once the bees have stored enough honey. Beekeepers gently take out these frames, often using smoke to calm the bees. They then remove the beeswax caps covering the honey-filled cells, typically with a hot knife or uncapping fork. The frames are placed in a centrifuge called a extractor, which spins to force honey out of the comb. The honey is then filtered to remove wax and debris, stored in containers, and ready for packaging. This process ensures the bees have enough honey left for their needs while providing humans with this sweet product.
