Harpegnathos

Harpegnathos is a genus of Asian jumping ants known for their remarkable social behavior. Unlike many ants with a clear queen and worker caste, some Harpegnathos ants can switch roles; certain workers can become reproductive "gamergates" after the queen's death, allowing the colony to continue. They are notable for their ability to jump considerable distances relative to their size, and they commonly inhabit forest floors. Their complex social structure and adaptive reproductive strategies make them interesting subjects for studying ant behavior and evolution.
