Hangul Day

Hangul Day, celebrated on October 9th in South Korea (and October 9th/10th depending on the region), honors the creation of the Korean alphabet, Hangul, by King Sejong in 1446. Hangul was developed to promote literacy among common people, as prior written language was complex and difficult to learn. The day commemorates the invention and its significance in Korean culture, language, and history.
