Handymax

Handymax refers to a specific size category of bulk cargo ships used in maritime transportation. These vessels are typically between 40,000 and 60,000 deadweight tons (DWT), meaning they can carry that weight of cargo, including minerals, grain, or containers. Handymax ships are versatile and small enough to access smaller ports that larger ships can’t reach, making them useful for regional shipping and deliveries. They are often employed in the bulk and commodity markets and serve as intermediaries between large Capesize ships and smaller vessels, balancing payload capacity with operational flexibility.
