Hamilton-Burr duel
The Hamilton-Burr duel was a historically famous confrontation between Alexander Hamilton, a founding father and former Treasury Secretary, and Aaron Burr, then Vice President of the United States. Tensions arose from political rivalry and personal grievances. In 1804, they agreed to duel in New Jersey, a common but dangerous way to settle disputes at the time. Hamilton was shot and fatally wounded by Burr during the duel, leading to his death the next day. The event had significant political repercussions and highlights the intense, often perilous nature of early American politics.
