Hakata Gion Yamakasa

Hakata Gion Yamakasa is a traditional Japanese festival held annually in Fukuoka, celebrating local history and culture. The event features teams of men racing through the streets while carrying beautifully decorated, large wooden floats called "kakiyama." Originating over 700 years ago to pray for a good harvest and protection from plagues, the festival showcases craftsmanship, teamwork, and community spirit. It culminates on July 15th with a dynamic race called the "Kakkunishi," where the floats are transported at high speed, creating a lively and vibrant atmosphere for spectators and participants alike.
