haka history

The haka is a traditional Māori dance from New Zealand, originally performed to prepare warriors for battle, celebrate achievements, or mark special occasions. It involves powerful movements, chanting, and facial expressions to convey strength and unity. Over time, the haka has become a symbol of Māori culture and identity, often performed at ceremonies and sporting events. The most internationally famous haka, "Ka Mate," was composed in the 19th century by Māori chief Te Rauparaha. Today, it is widely recognized and performed to honor heritage, foster community, and display pride, notably by the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team before matches.
