Haile Selassie was the Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974. Born in 1892, he was a significant figure in African history, known for modernizing Ethiopia and promoting African unity. His reign was marked by efforts to reform the military, education, and infrastructure. In 1936, he appealed to the League of Nations against Italian invasion, gaining international attention. Selassie's leadership and his role in establishing the Organization of African Unity earned him respect. He was also central to the Rastafari movement, regarded as a messianic figure. His reign ended with a coup in 1974, leading to Ethiopia's communist regime.
