Habituation Subsystem

The Habituation Subsystem is a brain mechanism that helps us become less sensitive to repeated, harmless stimuli over time. For example, if you move to a new house, you might initially notice the ticking of a clock or background noise, but eventually stop noticing it. This system essentially filters out familiar, non-threatening inputs so we can focus on new or important information. It plays a vital role in managing sensory overload and maintaining attention by reducing unnecessary reactions to constant, unchanging stimuli.
