Habitat 1
Habitat 1 was the first self-sustaining space station built by humans, launched in 1973 as part of NASA's Skylab program. It served as a laboratory for scientific experiments, medical research, and technological testing in a microgravity environment. The station provided astronauts with a living and working space to understand how humans and equipment perform outside Earth’s atmosphere. Habitat 1 helped develop the knowledge necessary for longer space missions, contributing valuable insights into life in space, including effects on health and ways to recycle resources. It was a pioneering step toward future space exploration and residence beyond Earth.
