Habit Disorders

Habit disorders in the context of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics refer to repetitive behaviors that are often difficult to control and can interfere with daily life. These might include habits like thumb-sucking, nail-biting, hair-pulling, or excessive thumb twiddling. Such behaviors typically develop in childhood and can persist into adolescence or adulthood. They may be a response to stress, anxiety, or boredom, and while they can be benign, they might lead to social, emotional, or physical issues. Treatment may involve behavioral interventions, therapy, or addressing underlying anxiety to help manage and reduce these habits.
