H. Yukawa

H. Yukawa was a Japanese theoretical physicist known for proposing the existence of the meson, a particle that mediates the strong force holding atomic nuclei together. His work introduced the concept that forces between particles are transmitted by other particles, similar to how electromagnetic forces are carried by photons. Yukawa's theory helped explain how protons and neutrons stay bound in the nucleus. His ideas were foundational in particle physics, leading to the discovery of mesons, and earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1949.
